We are currently seeking a talented attorney to join our world-class legal department. In this position, the House Counsel Attorney provides legal representation to Progressive insured and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. This position will essentially provide coverage for Progressive in the courts in the various counties supported by the downstate New York offices.
Responsibilities include:

Managing minor PE cases, court appearances, compliance conferences, discovery conferences, etc.
Entering into discovery orders and arguing points in front of a judge.
Preparing legal pleadings, motions, statements and trial briefs.
Negotiating settlements with plaintiffs and/or their attorneys in conjunction with claims department authority.
Requirements:
We're looking for top-notch attorneys who are driven, have passion for connecting with customers and have a proven track record of high performance and solution-based legal strategies.
Required Qualifications and Skills:

Juris doctorate.
Active membership and good standing with the New York State Bar Association.
Trial experience either through courses in law school or on the job-Jury trial with verdict experience a plus.
1-2 years of automobile defense or personal injury experience preferred.
Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
Access and willingness to travel within the downstate New York area on a daily basis.
